| 1916 Cornell v. Michigan Football Real Photo Postcard, RPPC Ithaca, NY. A strong Michigan team wins their first seven games, 7-0 all home games, with four shutouts, then travels east to face Cornell who won the National Championship the year before (Cornell beat Michigan 34-7 in 1915). Cornell was 6-1 at the time. Fabulous real photo postcard. Interesting message on back - "Placed 55 against 65 on the game." ..Gambling reference?? Postmarked Nov. 13, 1916 from Ithaca NY, which is amazing considering the game was on a Saturday two days prior (Nov. 11, 1916). Photo taken by John P. Troy Troy was the official Cornell University photographer from 1900 - 1928. Photos of events, campus views and athletics appeared in every Cornell publication from yearbooks to calendars. Troy was an iconic fixture at Cornell for over a quarter century. When he retired in 1928 his studio had over 20,000 negatives. |
